Bray Womens Refuge Support Services

The Bray Women's Refuge provides the following services:

24 Hour Crisis Helpline

We offer a 24 hours confidential supportive non judgemental service to callers in crisis. We can provide accommodation for women with or without children in our comfortable refuge. Professional key workers and child care workers are available to assist women on a daily basis re their crisis.

Emergency Accommodation for Families

We have 1 single bedroom plus cot and 4 bedrooms with 4 bunks in each room and a possibility of adding an extra mattress or cot. So in total we can accommodate up to 25 people (including children).

Social Welfare Support

Information regarding women's rights and entitlements will be offered. Where necessary a local Community Welfare Officer will be contacted to ensure that the family has access to any necessary social welfare payment and that this is not interfered with.

Paralegal Assistance

Staff are available to provide information regarding legal orders available to women experiencing domestic violence. Where necessary, legal aid may be available for any client who requires a solicitor to take up her case in court. An outreach worker may accompany a woman to court where necessary to give her moral and emotional support. This service is available to clients and ex clients pursuing legal options through the court system such as obtaining a safety/barring order, breaches of orders and jusicial or legal separations.

Medical Support

Staff in the refuge are qualified to provide first aid in the event of an emergency. Where necessary, arrangements will be made for a medical professional to see any client who requires assistance or an appointment will be made in the Carlton Clinic, Bray for this client.


A childcare service is available in a child friendly play room with professional childcare workers from 9am-6pm each weekday to enable mothers to have some time and space for themselves and to allow children express themselves with in a safe, non judgemental environment.

Outreach Programme

Our Outreach Programme is a service aimed to provide support to women who may never wish to spend time as a resident in the Refuge itself. A trained Counsellor is available to work with any woman who wishes to discuss her circumstances with her. this programme is also available to ex-residents who are no longer staying in the refuge. Poppy Drop In Service

A free confidential support service is available to all affected by domestic abuse. Information is available about your social welfare rights, legal rights, financial problems, counselling needs can be addressed and you can be helped and supported in any of these matters.

Education Programme

We offer programmes / workshops and talks to Schools, Youth Clubs, Health Board Nurses, Pychologists, Co Council's Frontline Stall, Gardai, HSE, Community Groups etc on domestic abuse, relationships etc. The workshops are aimed at raising awareness about healthy relationships in adolescents, general awareness raising on the issue of domestic violence and related issues.

Advocacy and Lobbying on relevant issues

Staff and Outreach Workers advocate on behalf of clients and accompany them to relevant inter agency services where appropriate.
